When did you start Merlin Cabinets and what was your background before the business?
I started Merlin Cabinets in January 2005 with just myself and one apprentice. I had previously worked as a joiner in the UK and had also gained valuable experience working in various areas of the timber and furniture industry around Europe. The intention has always been to grow the business, and our purpose is to provide the highest quality cabinetry through good management, teamwork, with friendly and reliable customer service.”
We now have a team of eight. This team includes designers, tradesmen and apprentices, providing what we believe is a unique service to the Peel region and beyond.
What are the key areas that Merlin Cabinets specialises in?

However; Clients also have available a leading edge product range of custom luxury kitchens; supply only/flat pack; stone and acrylic tops; a full range of accessories; an internet design facility; shop fit outs; and other trades supply.
Making best use of the current technology in the industry. Our design process focuses on practical storage solutions as well as visual appeal. Custom cabinets are made to fit each individual project instead of using standard size cabinets.
Our customers are builders, developers, home owners, renovators, commercial clients, and supply only clients. We will supply our products and services throughout Western Australia.
How has the industry changed since you started the business?
New technology is always being introduced into our industry especially with the storage hardware that is now available. Full extension draw systems are now a must in any modern kitchen along with easily accessible food storage zones. Stone tops are now more popular than ever and certainly more affordable than a few years ago.
What are the current trends in kitchen design?
Current trends we are seeing in kitchen design include high gloss doors, particularly in white and in some timber grain colours. Engineered stone benchtops with under-mount sinks and handle free kitchens with aluminium or stainless steel recess rails are also popular.
Electronic servo assisted draw units from manufacturers like Blum, and LED lighting are popular features too.
Have you introduced any new machinery or design technology into the business recently?
We have always been a business that has strived to keep up to date with developments in the market and this has been reflected with our recent purchase of a new CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machine. This has not only speeded up our manufacturing process but also allowed our team more time to concentrate on design and installation.
Our technology will be sourced, acquired, developed and implemented to provide the most robust facility available for the manufacture of our leading edge product range.
What are you views on future innovations in kitchen design?
I believe technology will continue to improve and increasingly play major part in our industry. With companies like Blum continuing to spend huge amounts of money researching new ideas and design improvements, there's an exciting future ahead. We find trends tend to go in cycles and with new textures and finishes being developed all of the time, who knows what the next trend will be!
With the recent favourite, the all-white high-gloss kitchen, now taking a back seat, this year's major kitchen trend is the use of natural, raw materials together with non-traditional lighting and black hardware.
With natural materials coming to the fore, kitchen designs have also included fewer upper cabinets to open up more space for both decorative lighting and larger scale splash backs, featuring marble or limestone.
This creates a real focal point for the room, the natural finish of the material effectively creating the look of a work of art.
Stainless steel and chrome are also being overlooked for warmer metals such as iron or graphite. Statements hoods in these finishes can look fabulous up against big slabs of marble. Other natural, raw materials in vogue include brick veneer and concrete. For a more rustic look, find some reclaimed wood and create some stunning, individual-looking shelving.
So , if you are looking for someone to bring your kitchen designs to fruition the experts in the design, manufacture and installation of luxury kitchens and custom cabinets, Merlin Cabinets uses a range of top quality brands and materials, including Blum draw systems and engineered and natural stone surfaces. With a strong focus on designing kitchens with plenty of storage space and a high usability factor, designs also offer a strong visual appeal. Plus, in the initial stages of planning, 3D-drawings can be produced together with a 3-dimensional walk through model, allowing clients the opportunity to visualise the kitchen before the start of the manufacturing process.
